Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has from retired from football at the age of 33 after a bout with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg.
Marchisio ended his stay at Juve last year after spending 25 years in the club at which he also won four Italian walkers in addition to seven Serie A names. He earned 55 caps for Italy, the last of which was in 2017.
Its an important choice but a very difficult one. It had been right to reveal it in a really special location. I made the decision to retire because I realised that my own entire body was no longer reacting as the head desired, Marchisio told reporters at Juves Allianz Stadium.
He joined Zenit on a bargain a year ago but reduce his spell short this year because of a persistent knee issue after handling just nine appearances for them.
I spent unforgettable minutes on the field… I thank Juventus along with the other teams I played , my team-mates, managers and managers that gave me all this, he added.
